With Halloween coming soon, I wanted to post something to add to your seasonal mood. I was just over at Way Out Junk (where there are some keen Hanna-Barbera albums being posted, so swing over there for a look-see) and Tony had posted PANIC: The Son Of Shock by The Creed Taylor Orchestra. Apparently nobody has Shock available right now, so I thought I'd post it.

Side note: probably next week I'll be posting my first "I don't know what's on here" collection, so look for that.

Sleepwalking To A Birthday Party (Or... Happy Birthday Bubblegumfink!)

This post doesn't follow from the plan I mentioned in yesterday's update. Instead, it's something else entirely.

Today is the birthday of the Bubblegumfink! (you should really visit his blog if you haven't already). I've found not only lots of great music on the Bubblegumfink blog, but lots of links and pictures and other things that are, well, keen! I probably wouldn't have found many of the blogs I've found (and now check out as regularly as I can call regularly) without going to Bubblegumfink first.

So when I saw it was the Bubblegumfink's birthday, I thought I should try to find something to post. Then I remembered, "I'm Mister Lester Keen. I can't ever find anything I want to post!" Then I remembered (thanks to ebay-a-day: an auction almanac) that today is also the day The Red Baron first showed up in the Peanuts strip. Lo and behold, I actually have something related to this, and since it includes some kinda-sorta gummy stuff, plus it's on Peter Pan, I'd post it.

You're probably amazed (if you know my usual... timeliness...) that I could get this together so fast. Well, there's a couple of caveats. First, you need to subtract 80 from the track numbers (they're going to be 81-90). This is because I pulled it off of an itunes compilation I made and it happened to be tracks 81-90. The good news is that the numbering more or less works out if you skip the first digit.

The second caveat is that I don't have the cover for this record (and I couldn't even find one online). My copy is just in a plain white sleeve with "SNOOPY VS RED BARON" written on it with a Sharpie. If enough people ask, I'll write "SNOOPY VS RED BARON" with a Sharpie and scan it and post it, but I bet with a little effort, you can replicate the magic yourself.

My solution is to use the cover of a book (that I don't have, but which I found a nice picture of on Google image search) that is called "Snoopy and The Red Baron." (Link is the book, it's at Mega this time around)

...Just Really Sleepy

Just an occasional reminder: this blog's not dead, it's just really sleepy.

My disc indexing program sort of died on me (although I don't think it was at fault, since the whole hard drive went, too). So I have to dig to find a lot of what some of you would like reposted.

I haven't forgotten you, and I'm going to try to do three things within the next few weeks:

1. Locate everything that's already been posted so I can repost it.

2. Get some more stuff ready to post.

3. Burn it all on a specially marked backup just for YOU, my occasional visitors. Then when the links die, they can be resurrected with ease. None of this stuff getting lost business.

Some of what's coming up may be in "surprise" form. Not just for you, but for me, too. I've got lots of stuff from records (and various other sources) on minidiscs (yes, I'm that person who owns a minidisc player, you know, the only one), and I'd like to clear them off by burning them to CD. I'll post some of those both to share and in some cases, to see if you know what they are. You see, lots of them are unmarked...

So if you visit once in awhile and see this, know that the blog's just really sleepy.

Another request from awhile ago, it's Henry Mancini's soundtrack to "Two For The Road" starring Audrey Hepburn. It's from 1967, and while not Hank's most memorable work, it's still 1967 Henry Mancini, you know?

The actual album cover is fairly dull, but I found a foreign lobby card that's better...

A long while back I said I'd post my copies of the Dr. Goldfoot songs, so here are the themes (straight from my VHS tapes) of Dr. Goldfoot & The Bikini Machine and Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs. I've also tossed in "Spy Type Guy" from The Man Called Flintstones and a version of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. theme by the Paris Mitchell Strings with Brass (the opening of which sounds not unlike the opening to Ultraman).

In a companion piece to both the Odd Couple Sings! and the dialog-free post of the Neal Hefti score to the Lemmon/Matthau film posted over at You Don't Have To Visit This Blog, here are the dialog tracks from the soundtrack album. Despite being on the movie soundtrack, they appear to be recorded live (since they have applause on them). They stand alone as a sort of mini comedy album featuring some of the classic bits from the play.

Here is the long-awaited Odd Couple Sings! album.

Released on London's groovy Phase 4 Stereo with swinging Roland Shaw leading the orchestra and chorus, it's television's Felix & Oscar singing.

You don't need me to sell you on this. The song choices were pretty much dead-on, the performances are excellent and most of all it's just lots of fun to listen to.

Say what you will, I think Jack Klugman sings just fine, especially on "Johnny One Note."

Odd Couple on the way

I just wanted to let you know the Odd Couple is still on the way. It should be up on Monday or Tuesday. I will probably try using a different file host this time, since the rapidsafe link seems sluggish. If anyone has a preference, comment this and I'll check it before I post.

David McCallum: A Bit Less Of Him

I was going to share the entirety of the Open Channel D CD, but then I saw that an import CD that's really cheap is available including McCallum's "Music: A Part Of Me" and "A Bit More Or Me" albums as a 2-in-1. There were four songs on Open Channel D that aren't on that current release, though, so here they are. They are:

1. Communication
(speak-singing by McCallum along with swinging girl backup singers...it has that "Popular TV Star Hit Single Sound")
2. The House On Brekenbridge Lane
(a sort of Bacharach-esque pop sound)
3. In The Garden-Under The Tree
(funky/groovy in spite of itself, slower, but includes the swinging girl backup singers from Communication)
4. My Carousel
(perhaps the weirdest of the bunch, as McCallum is doing the carnival barker thing with his backup girls joining in)

Oddly, these groovy tunes actualy will go together fine with the U.N.C.L.E. albums.
